• Important Western decisions will be influenced by Bilderberg 2017

From 1-4^th June, 2017, over 100 of the world’s most influential figures are expected to gather at Westfields Marriott Hotel in Chantilly, Virginia, USA, for the annual meeting of the Bilderberg Group.

Billed by some as ‘the most important conference people have never heard of,’ Bilderberg’s official website calls the event “an annual meeting designed to foster dialogue between Europe and North America.”

It adds: “The meeting is closed to reporting journalists to encourage the highest level of openness and dialogue. Bilderberg meetings have never sought any public attention.” Following the event no minutes are published and attendees are bound by strict confidentiality rules.

The secrecy surrounding Bilderberg has led to fervent speculation by conspiracy theorists, who suggest that the group constitutes a shadowy world government.

Professor Andrew Kakabadse, author of Bilderberg People, the formative text exploring the private world and personal interactions between the ‘transnational power elite’ in attendance, rejects the more outrageous mythologies surrounding Bilderberg.

“The secrecy ensures that the people who attend the Bilderberg conference feel relaxed,” he explains.

“Bilderberg is concerned with fundamental forces that shape the world in which we live. Ideas are discussed, shared, and a transatlantic, capitalist consensus view of the world comes together. This ultimately results in ‘shaped positions’ that infiltrate into society.

However, Professor Kakabadse does believe that something distinctly different will emerge from this year’s gathering – namely that it will influence the future course of Western-Chinese relations.

“The ‘right-wing, shareholder-value, go-to-war’ interests of Bilderberg attendees, shaped over the last 20 years through selective invitation, have been emboldened by recent political developments,” he continues.

“The world is reaching a crisis point marked by America’s conflict with North Korea. Once this is resolved, either diplomatically or militarily, the next crisis will be Pakistan. Both of these countries are allies of the USA’s ultimate opponent, China.

“It is highly likely that discussions at Bilderberg 2017 will focus on developing messages to portray the West as protecting the world against China. Although there will be no reporting journalists present, subsequent press briefings and reports will attack Chinese positions and policies as part of a longer-term strategy.
