Delegates attending Regent’s University London’s International Partners’ Conference (7-9 January 2015) sent a unified message of support to all those affected by last week’s atrocities in Paris, showing the #JeSuisCharlie message during a moment of silence at the close of their event.
University students, staff and employers from across the globe had gathered to debate the role and impact of education on international employment, but the event was tinged with sadness by news of the Charlie Hebdo attack and subsequent hostage crises in France.
Professor Aldwyn Cooper, Vice Chancellor of Regent’s University London, commented:
“Our annual International Partners’ Conference has always proved a celebration of the importance of global education and debate. This is underlined by the core principles of free speech, which has been so ruthlessly brought into focus by these tragic events.”
