Students receive their Pride of Latimer Awards at the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering.

Latimer Arts College celebrated its second annual ‘Pride of Latimer’ awards on Tuesday 1 July at The Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering, welcoming over 500 parents and supporters to a spectacular evening of performance and presentations, showcasing the very best in student achievement.

The event recognised more than 100 Latimer students for their excellence across a range of categories, including: Creativity & Innovation; Student Choice; Sports Personality; Community Spirit; Rising Stars, and the Spirit of Latimer Award.

Students also entertained the audience with musical hits from the Latimer Jazz Band, The Collaborative Choir, and a popular keyboard and saxophone recital of ‘The One,’ along with a dramatic Romeo & Juliet excerpt, and a dance show from ‘Defying Gravity.’

Latimer Arts College Principal, Siobhan Hearne said:

“All of our students do so much hard work, both academically and through their contributions to the community. This is a great opportunity to say thank you to them publicaly. I’m very proud we can celebrate their achievements in this unique way.”

Year 11 student Megan Brown received an award for Excellent Achievement in Geography. She said:

“Geography has been my favourite subject over the last two years and I’d definitely like to work in this area in the future. I’m very excited to have been nominated by my teachers for an award.”

Ewan Frost, Year 9, was given a Community Spirit award for his contributions to charity. He said:

“I’ve been chosen for my work helping TCF, a charity which helps bereaved parents and families who’ve lost a child. I like helping people and have raised money on stalls and at coffee mornings and other events.”

Students and guests also enjoyed a talk from adventurer, author and inspirational speaker – Rona Cant. She commented:

“This occasion was all about some amazing children and I’ve been very impressed by all of the Latimer Arts College students. I was delighted to talk to them about my own journey, which has included the Round the World Yacht Race and charity challenge dog-sledding in the Arctic.”
