‘75 students from Latimer Arts College helped teach globally-themed workshops’
The occasion was supported by 75 students from nearby Latimer Arts College, who helped teach a variety of globally-themed workshops which included a French Café, American history performances, New Zealand’s Haka, didgeridoo playing, African drumming, and even Chinese Dragon dancing.
Siobhan Hearne, Principal at Latimer Arts College, explained: “We’re delighted our students have once again put on a first-class performance helping young children from across Northamptonshire learn about the world.
“One World Day provides an invaluable opportunity to discover new cultures and reinforces important curriculum-based subjects. The day also helps reassure young children that secondary school is a great experience and something for them to look forward to.”

Year 9 Latimer Arts College student, Annie Tyagi, commented: “We love teaching children during One World Day and the workshops really stretch our leadership and creative skills.
“We’ve definitely learnt a lot about event organisation and communication while putting together our performances on American history.”
Graham Holloway, former education manager at Wicksteed Park, added: “One World Day is in its fourth successful year now, and it would be impossible to run an event like this without the amazing support we receive from Latimer Arts College and their students.
“All of the primary children attending have at least one experience of a different continent during the day and participate in a colourful parade to close proceedings. This is an excellent way to put learning about other cultures into practise.”
