09 Nov Luger joins Regent’s as new Business Dean
Professor Michael Luger has been appointed as new Dean of Business and Management at Regent’s University London, following his last permanent higher education position as Dean of Manchester Business School.
Professor Luger begins his Regent’s role on Wednesday 8 November and will initially work for two days a week, while completing his notice period as chair of a NHS Foundation Trust.
Prior to his directorship of Manchester Business School, he was Professor of Public Policy, Business and Planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with appointments on the entrepreneurship faculty of the Kenan-Flagler Business School and in the College of Arts and Sciences.
He has also served as founding chairman of the consolidated programme in Public Policy, founding director of the University’s Centre for Competitive Economies, and the Carl H. Pegg Professor of City and Regional Planning.
Professor Luger taught on the Economics faculties at Duke University and the University of Maryland. He has been a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar (New Zealand), a Reynolds Fellow, and a USIA Fellow (Bulgaria).
He was also a visiting professor at Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien. Professor Luger received his AB (architecture and planning) and MPA from Princeton University, and his MCP (planning) and Ph.D. (economics) from the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Luger was additionally a professional officer at the Greater London Council in the 1970s and the director of a planning agency in his native Pennsylvania. He has served on the boards of several major public sector and not-for-profit organisations.
Regent’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Aldwyn Cooper, commented: “We are delighted that Professor Luger is joining us at such an exciting time in our University’s journey.
“Our Directorate would also like to thank Dr Stephen Ellis for acting as interim Faculty Dean, a position he will continue in until Michael can join
us full-time.
“Steve will, as part of his role as Associate Dean and building on his Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, focus on radically developing the teaching and learning style in Business and Management in preparation for our first entry into the TEF round in 2019.”
